The Use of Oils.
It is preferable to massage with a good quality vegetable oil. Olive oil, sunflower, sweet almond or grapeseed are recommended. Vegetable oils are golden in colour.
It is not advisable to use a mineral oil for massaging, check the label before you buy. Mineral based oils are usually completely clear and colourless. These oils tend to clog the pores of the skin and become quite sticky when used for massaging.
After 6 weeks essential oils can be used in conjunction with the base oil. I sell a blend of grapeseed with lavender and chamomile. This is a very soothing blend, both the lavender and chamomile helping relaxation, and the lavender acting as a mild antiseptic --- it also smells lovely and is good for your hands! For babies under 6 weeks, or for those with a particularly sensitive skin I also have pure grapeseed oil.
